Aberdeen Gardening – Help For The Amateur Gardener

Bagged up loads of material suitable for composting, all from Perennial plants which had been cut back last week.

Borders are starting to look a little tidier again.

In the afternoon I decided to plant a deciduous Azalea which was purchased last week.

To carry on with my peat free theme from yesterday I decided to nip over to B&Q for some ericaceous compost that did not contain peat. It really is necessary to plant Azaleas in soil which is acidic.

Unfortunately my journey was fruitless, the only choice for acid loving plants was indeed peat based.

 Seems that I make these decisions, only to be tested just to see if I am true to my word.

Well you see I really needed to get this plant in place, I mean the weather may well change and it could get frosted in its pot,  yes you guessed I bought the compost, journey not quite as fruitless.

I intended lying but that would have just added to my sheepish guilt. Anyway got the job done.

I have been making some checks for the availability of ericaceous compost which is peat free, seems that you can make your own with composted Heathers and Pine needles, that should provide me with about twelve ounces for 2008.
