Profile of plants that grow well in North East Scotland

Mahonia Charity

Posted by Alistair on Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Continuing my profile of plants and shrubs which  grow well in our Aberdeen garden.

The evergreen shrub Mahonia is widely grown for its charming yellow scented flowers and long green leaves consisting of 16 to 22 leaflets.

Flowering in the Aberdeen area from February till April making this one invaluable for the mixed shrub border.

Charity has an upright habit and grows best of all in a semi shaded position. Prune this fast growing architecural shrub in Spring after flowering.

Position : Full sun/Partial shade

Soil : Well drained humus rich and moderately fertile

Hardiness : Fully hardy

Height : 400cm, Regular pruning will keep it in check
