Callicarpa (beauty Berry)
Callicarpa (beauty Berry), now here is a hardy shrub that really jumps out at you in Autumn.
The hardiest variety Callicarpa Bodinieri Var Giraldii Profusion now that’s a handful of a name. This is truly a lovely deciduous shrub with delicate pink flowers in summer and large clusters of violet bead-like berries in autumn, through winter.
The young foliage is often bronze-purple, becoming dark green in summer before turning golden purple in autumn.
The RHS gave this plant an award of outstanding garden merit.
To show off their berries it is best to plant in groups of three. Reaching an eventual height of about ten feet this colourful shrub prefers a sunny or lightly shaded position planted in free draining soil that is on the acidic side.
