Carex Oshimensis Evergold

When planning an annual Summer bedding display, consider the choice of the edging plants carefully.

It seems to me the old fashioned Allysum and Lobelia is a very hard combination to beat. Even the uninspired scheme can come to life with this traditional setup.

However, for next year we have already planted up the edging with something a little different, (Carex Oshimensis Evergold.) This evergreen grassy like Sedge will give a permanent edge, which if planted about twelve inches apart should look very effective all year round.

In Autumn plant Polyanthus in between each Sedge. For the Summer display change this over for one of the dark blue Lobelias. This Carex forms into graceful arching clumps which do not spread and reach a height of 25cm, perhaps a little taller in a shady position. The golden leaves have deep green margins. The RHS gave it their prestigious award of garden merit.
