Taxus Baccata Fastigiata Robusta
Taxus Baccata Fastigiata Robusta
If you happen to be searching for a narrow growing conifer and feeling a little undecided in your choice, I think I have found just what you are looking for. Taxus Baccata Fastigiata Robusta Many gardeners opt for the Italian Cypress, however in my experience here in Aberdeen it simply is not hardy enough.
Taxus Baccata Fastigiata Robusta, is definitely worth considering, we purchased three five foot specimens from Ben Reid of Aberdeen This statuesque narrow columnar Yew has very dark green foliage and red berries in Winter.
All Taxus including this fine specimen lends itself nicely to trimming if you find it getting too tall for the situation. It is rather slow growing, which can of course be a bonus if you want to keep it at 5/6ft. Of course if you would rather see it in its full glory of 7mtrs plus then leave well alone, and if you live long enough you will be rewarded with a magnificent sight.
All parts of the Yew are poisonous, except to the birds, they absolutely love the berries.
Height – 7mtrs plus
Hardiness – Fully Hardy
Position – Full sun/Partial shade
Thank you Lily, all the best to you and your family.
Blackbirds in particular love them Donna.
Taxus and birds, who knew. I never saw them feeding on them. Good to know.
Have a wonderful holidays!
Definitely worth growing Chris.
Looks like a nice option for a columnar accent!
