Picea glauca Daisy’s White
Looking for something different for the rockery, the Picea glauca Daisy’s White sure is eye catching.
The Picea glauca Daisy’s White in our garden
Well as you can see Daisys White is in our front garden, we don’t have a rockery, although the front garden is pretty stony.
I planted it three years ago, and it’s not much taller than it was when planted, about 35 cm.
When Spring arrived I was astonished as to how white the leaves were, someone even asked me if it was real. Well anyway, I really like it and its here to stay.
Plant profile for Picea glauca Daisy’s White
Hardiness
Fully hardy in UK
Height
90cm/3ft, reportedly taking up to twenty years to reach this height, making it truly suitable for the rockery, plant pot or a border position where it doesn’t get crowded out.
Position
It likes a sunny spot in the garden, and yet the tips of the needle like foliage can be damaged by the Spring sunshine. This is less likely in the Scottish garden.
Appearance
This astonishing pyramid shaped dwarf Picea (Spruce) in Spring has leaves which are truly off-white. They stay this shade for quite some time, slowly darkening to a mid-green.

Copes with any reasonable garden soil that does not dry out.

What’s up in the garden
Well into early Autumn, and already we have had a few mornings with temperature in low single figures, gets me thinking of the garden for next Spring.
The courtyard is the place where we can relax, however something about the appearance was bothering me.
Too many pots running up the centre were spoiling the appearance. I had to do something quickly before the coming Winter.
I decided raised planters would look good. I went online and found these. Four feet long wooden planters. I ordered three of them. The flat packs soon arrived, I would have preferred ready assembled however I got stuck in and within a few days they were put together and given four coats of preservative paint and a membrane liner attached to the inside.
For these I have kept the planting simple with Lavender and Hakonechloa Aureola.
I am very pleased with the result and can’t stop going out to look at it. I will probably find myself going outdoors in Winter more often just to keep it looking tidy.
“Great choice with the raised planters! It’s impressive that you put them together yourself and added those extra touches with the preservative paint and liner. They’ll look fantastic and last longer with that added care!”
