Tiger Lily White Twinkle
The Tier Lily White Twinkle, Is it really a tiger Lily? Well, the mail order company which I purchased it from referred to it as Asiatic. The appearance suggests Tiger, that’s good enough for me.
Performance of Tiger Lily White Twinkle in our garden
I planted three clumps of this gorgeous Lily in our back garden in mid-Winter. The timing of this was not by choice. That is when they landed on my doorstep.
I struggled to find planting spots for Tiger Lily White Twinkle, so overcrowded our borders have become. However, where there’s a will.
Actually, Lilies can work out well squeezed in between perennials and poking their heads through.
The bulbs were smaller than I would have hoped for, but as you can see, did pretty well.
The flowers opened fully in early July and lasted for about three weeks. Beautiful as they are, the nodding heads sort of make you want to lie on the ground and look upwards. I have done dafter things, but never in the front garden. More Lilies in our Cheshire garden
Plant Profile for Tiger Lily White Twinkle
Height
About 1meter/ a little over three feet
Hardiness
Fully hardy throughout the UK
Soil
Here is where I am determined to complicate things. The majority, but not all, refer to Lily white Twinkle as being a Tiger Lily, some say it is an Asiatic with Tiger characteristics, in fact RHS describe it as Asiatic.
So, Tiger Lilies like the soil to be on the acidic side, whereas Asiatics prefer neutral to alkaline.
Our soil is slightly acidic, but I am pretty sure if it is neutral and leaning slightly either way it will be fine. Free draining on the rich side is good.
Flowers
The white ivory nodding flowers are greyish speckled and lightly scented. Bloom time is July/August.
Position
Best in full sun, but will tolerate part shade. Plant bulbs from late Autumn through till early Spring.
Plant your Lily bulbs 5 inches deep and 6 inches apart, in groups of three or five.

A look back at 2022
In November and early December, everyone was talking about how mild it was for the time of year. Temperatures reaching 15 c/59 f However, by the 12th of December it did become bitterly cold, temperatures as low as minus 6 c/ 21 f.
I don’t really complain about the weather quite the same these days. When I hear of the extreme weather conditions that many people face around the world due to climate change, I realise these things could happen here.
Here are a few pictures of our Fife garden in Spring and Summer 2022.
Our courtyard is the best and most sheltered area of our garden. Just perfect for sitting and relaxing with a glass of wine and a good book.
See how lovely the Amelanchier looks in April.
Camellia Donation, one of the hardiest available. Perfect for Scotland
For some strange reason, the owners of the houses in our new build area are reluctant to plant trees. I have no real way of finding out why, but yet they stop to admire the Punus Accolade in April.
Our back garden in late June
The garden Pinks came through the Winter undamaged. Flowering beautifully in July, I need to swap some of the white ones for another colour.
Hello Joy, Yes, its the weirdest thing having an aversion to trees. We had Sweet Surrender in Aberdeen. I hope you missed the worst of those horrendous low temperatures.
Happy New Year, soon we will be thinking of Spring.
Hello there Alistair, your gardens always look so neat, organized, and BEAUTIFUL ! .. That is strange that your neighbors don’t plant trees .. when we bought this house I couldn’t get enough trees planted (and had a huge learning curve for many of them sadly ) .. Your white tiger lily is called “Sweet Surrender” here in Canada and I have a few of them too !
I just did an order to one of our Canadian companies for a beautiful white Martagon lily called Snowy “Morning” it is argued to be a Turk’s Cap as well. I love punctuation of bright white in the garden, it sets off itself and yet all the other colours too .. Happy New Year !! I hope our garden year will be wonderful and satisfying 😉
Just a mixture of plants, Spring bulbs, Hostas, Heucheras
That lily is very lovely.
Lovely photos. Can I ask what you have planted beside the amelachier please?
Many thanks
