Winter Flowering Jasmine Nudiflorum
Winter Flowering Jasmine Nudiflorum.
An extremely reliable shrub is the Winter Flowering Jasmine Nudiflorum or more often treated as a climber, it was introduced from China in 1844. The long flexible stems can be trained on or over horizontal wires and trellis. It is just as attractive if you allow it to scramble over a wall that is not too high or even down a bank.
The stems are bright green and give an evergreen impression, even in winter when the tiny bright yellow blooms appear.
Fully hardy in all parts of the country. Regular pruning which should be done immediately after flowering will keep the plant under control and prevent bare dead patches from appearing.
Winter jasmine is a welcome sight when starting to flower in November, and will continue to do so throughout the rest of the long winter. Expect the eventual height to reach ten feet, depending on your pruning regime. Grows in soil which is either acidic or alkaline, preferring a sunny or partially shaded situation.
