Lythrum Salicaria Feuerkerze
Lythrum Salicaria Feuerkerze
In late Summer/early Autumn, you will have spotted Purple Loosestrife in the countryside or in town where the ground has not been cultivated. First reaction would be to avoid this invasive plant in the garden. However there are several cultivated specimens which are very garden friendly. Indeed Lythrum Salicaria Feuerkerze has been given the award of garden merit by the RHS.
The slender tall stems are covered in striking rose/red flowers, which although sterile the butterflies and bees still enjoy the abundant nectar.
This plant should grow well in your mixed border, although Lythrum does prefer moist soil. Also does exceptionally well near a pond where the soil is boggy. Another great hardy perennial for the Aberdeen garden.
